We all know that sleep is essential to our physical health, our mental well-being and our overall success and happiness.

Unfortunately, sleep isn’t always easy to come by, particularly in uncertain or stressful times.

Are you having trouble getting rejuvenating sleep each night? Tired of waking up unrested and yawning your way through the day? Here are four tips that can help you get a good night’s rest:

  1. Upgrade your bedding.Trade in your well-worn sheets for softer ones in a higher thread count. You can also upgrade your standard duvet or comforter, or get a weighted blanket, which is shown to promote better sleep and even help combat stress.

  2. Avoid tech before hitting the hay.Don’t check your phone or watch TV just before going to sleep. You should plan to steer clear of bright screens in the hour leading up to bedtime.

  3. Create the right atmosphere.Install a smart thermostat, and set it to start cooling down an hour or so before bedtime. The best temperature is roughly 65 degrees, according to the National Sleep Foundation. You should also have a white noise machine to drown out any outside sounds.

  4. Have a routine.Try to go to sleep around the same time each night, and put a bedtime routine in place. Maybe yours could include taking a bath, reading a book or meditating for a few minutes. Sticking to the same set of activities each night will help prep your body for a solid night’s sleep.
